Events & Interviews

I’m very happy to have opportunities to chat about mental health topics and my novels, My Life in a Nutshell and Leave of Absence. It is through conversation and discussions that ideas are shared and awareness and understanding are increased.  I’m very grateful to the below programs and hosts for inviting me to their radio shows, bookstores, libraries, conferences, and groups and for engaging in discussions about mental illness and also my novels.  For the interviews, I invite you to follow the links to listen to the discussions, and for the events, I invite you to attend if you are in the area.

On Wednesday, October 15, I have the honor of being a guest on Storytellers Campfire. Host Lady Selah SuJuris and I will have a cozy chat around her virtual campfire and discuss My Life in a Nutshell.

Previously, I was invited to Storytellers Campfire to chat with Lady Selah SuJuris about my YA novel Losing Elizabeth and abusive relationships in which too many teens become trapped.

The Anxiety Guru, Paul Dooley, and I discuss social anxiety and the power of human connection on The Anxiety Guru Show. Further, read Paul’s post that accompanies the interview, entitled Surprise! When Anxious, Being Alone is A Horrible Idea. Here’s What to do Instead.

Tune into On Health and Healing Radio  at 11:00 pm (Eastern), 8:00 pm (Pacific) on Thursday, August 28, 2014. Angela Levesque and I will discuss mental wellness, healing, and My Life in a Nutshell.

Randi Fine invited me to be a guest on her radio show A Fine time for Healing. If you missed us live online on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, you can catch the recording by following the above link.

Dr. Gorman and I discussed, on June 24, 2013,  both mental illness and Leave of Absence on Beautiful Minds Radio.  Beautiful Minds Radio is a station dedicated to reducing the stigma of mental illness.  Follow the link to the interview, which begins approximately 15 minutes into the show.

Interview with Dr. Chris Gorman

On Tuesday, May 21 I had a conversation with Tony on The Author Show, part of Artist First Radio.  While the interview was live, the recording will remain on the Artist First website.  Here’s a direct link to my interview:

Jenee Darden with Peers Envisioning and Engaging in Recovery Services (P.E.E.R.S) interviewed me in April, 2013.  We had fun chatting about mental illness, my personal experience with it, and Leave of Absence.  The interview, entitled “Finding Hope in a Psych Ward:  Tanya J. Peterson on Her Book ‘Leave of Absence’,” was posted on on April 18.

P.E.E.R.S. Mental Health and Wellness Radio

On April 11, 2013, I talked live with Mr. Dresser about mental illness.  It’s clear that there are many misunderstandings around mental illness and that we need to take action to erase negative stereotypes and stigma.

NAMI Walk 2013

I participated in the Portland NAMI Walk on May 19, 2013. My daughter and I joined our local team to help increase awareness of mental illness and the number of people it impacts.

Again in May, 2014, I joined a team to participate in the annual walk to increase awareness.
